Why I Wrote Bourre Brouhaha

Bourre Brouhaha, Pauline Baird Jones, Big Uneasy

I was shocked to realize that I never wrote a “why I wrote” for Bourre Brouhaha!

I went back on my blog and did some searching and well, why I wrote this mystery is a—mystery. Haha

I know I had a great time writing it and that my beautiful cover by Melody Simmons provided a lot of inspiration for me as the story unfolded.

There is an interesting synergy between Melody and I. All I gave her in the brief was that the hero was a firefighter. And she delivered an amazing cover for me that helped fuel the story. (That fire on the cover definitely provided fuel! Haha)

As the woman she chose, also helped me discover Audrey Goodheart—the truly worst person for Eddie Baker to fall for…since her father is a convicted arsonist. I felt kind of gleeful about that, even though I know it made things harder for poor Eddie. Thankfully, love conquers all for Audrey and Eddie.

Here’s what the book is about:

Eddie Baker is a firefighter with one major issue… he’s ready to fall in love, but doesn’t know it yet. That may be a good thing with all the obstacles standing in his way! He just needs to find the right woman who can light his fire!

Audrey Goodheart may play a fortune teller in her working life, but she knows trouble when she sees it. After all, she is the daughter of an arsonist. All she wants is a good man to love and a criminal-free life. That isn’t an easy wish to fulfill with her father’s criminal friends always hanging around!

If life wasn’t difficult enough, Audrey also needs to discover who is after her.

Can a firefighter and the daughter of an arsonist defeat the bad guys before they burn Audrey’s life down or will the match made in heaven burn like hell?

What readers and reviewer are saying:

“What happens when a firefighter meets the daughter of a convicted arsonist? This is a romance begging to be written.  The pairing may be a bit Uneasy, but Pauline Baird Jones is pretty good at that kind of story.” Whiskey With My Book

“Wow, this romantic mystery set on heart on fire. I’ve heard about this funny series for months and when I got a chance to read one, I couldn’t wait. This Baker family is a hoot!” NN Light Reviews

“This is an awesome romantic suspense! I loved it so much.. Really, really good! It is clever and unique, with characters that you will love.” Reader/reviewer

“This is book eight of the series, but it is written as a standalone. No prior reading is required. This is a cozy mystery with a strong sense of humor. From the zany cast of characters that populate the story to the amusing banter between our hero and heroine, this story provides action, mystery and laughs in equal measure. This plot is fast paced and full of twists and turns which keeps you guessing as to what comes next. I was sucked into the story right away and it kept my attention right through to the end. Overall, a wonderful story and I look forward to reading more from this author and in this series. Highly recommended.” Reader/reviewer

“This is the eighth story I have read about the Baker family and each time I have read a story about them, it makes me want to be a part of their family. Alas, I don’t think there are any brothers left. Darn. I could be wrong. There may be one or two left so I might have a chance…lol If you enjoy reading about New Orleans, which I love, mystery and suspense, I think you will enjoy this series.” Reader/reviewer
