We’re Having a Book Birthday!

Pets in Space® turns five tomorrow!!!

It’s our book birthday this month! Pets in Space® turns five!!! Forgive me, please, if I pause a little to look back!

The concept: authors write original stories, we contribute 10% of preorders and first month’s sales (technically, we ran through Veterans’ Day) to Hero Dogs. Readers get great science fiction romance stories and get to help a great charity. Who or what is Hero Dogs? Hero Dogs, Inc., a Maryland 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, pets cover with library journal bannerimproves the quality of life for our nation’s heroes by raising, training, and placing service dogs and other highly skilled canines, free of charge with lifetime support of the partnerships.

The anthologies were limited release, meaning they were only on sale for a limited time. (The stories from the anthologies are, for the most part, available from the authors after the anthologies were taken off sale.) And we commissioned original pet sketches to add that extra something to the anthology (and to give us the ability to create unique, collectibles for readers).

cover artThe original Pets in Space® anthology had nine authors, donated $1400.00 to Hero Dogs, and was honored as a Library Journal Best Book (eOriginal) for 2016.

Twelve authors joined us for Embrace the Romance: Pets in Space 2 and we donated $3000.00 to Hero Dogs that year! The anthology was a USA Today Bestseller and a Library Journal Best Book (eOriginal) for 2017! It also snagged an SFR Galaxy Award that year.

Ten authors joined us for Embrace the Passion: Pets in Space 3. It debuted Oct. 18, 2018, and was a USA Today bestseller and pulled in two SFR Galaxy Awards! cover art

For Pets in Space 4, we had our very lucky thirteen authors. Once again, it was also a USA Today Bestseller and thanks to an anonymous donor doubling our donation, we contributed a lovely $8600 that year to Hero Dogs.

That adds up to nearly $14,000.00 we’ve raised for Hero Dogs!

cover artWe’re hoping we’ll have another great year as Pets in Space® 5 releases tomorrow! That’s right! The wait is over! Twelve authors, twelve great stories, and another chance to donate to a great charity!

Here’s the blurb:

And here are the details on my story in the anthology:

GENERAL’S HOLIDAY

Project Enterprise Series Story

A lady, a frog, and the General that wanted to be Picard…

General John Halliwell, Commander of the Project Enterprise Earth Expedition, has spent most of his time in the Garradian Galaxy being shot at and shooting back. When a mysterious and intriguing lady arrives on Kikk asking for some non-shooting help, he is intrigued enough to listen.

All Naxe has ever known is a life of hiding and providing. With the end of the war, freedom still feels further than ever. Determined to end the stalemate that threatens her people, she will break all the rules—even the one where she asks General Halliwell for help.

Of course, she should have known better. Trouble—and the shooting—starts the moment she brings the general and his team to the Scoyfol ships. It won’t matter that the enterprising General Halliwell is the first man to remind her she is a woman if they are dead! Is it possible to end the stalemate, survive the shooting, and still find a happily ever after?
