It is somehow already more than halfway through January, which clearly explains how 2025 went by so fast.
Clearly, time is speeding up.
We cannot see it happening, because clocks are speeding up too. That is just science. Possibly questionable science, but science nonetheless.
I will admit my data is entirely anecdotal. Still, I know time moved slower when I was a kid. There is a reason they used to call them the lazy days of summer. Days used to stretch. Weeks took forever. Now I blink and an entire month wanders off without telling me where it went.
Be that as it may, which is something my mom used to say and therefore proof that I am slowly turning into my mother, life is currently speeding along like an out-of-control teenager with a driver’s license and poor judgment.
And in the middle of all that speeding time, I put Boucherie Breakdown, The Big Uneasy Book 11, up for preorder this week.
This was a bit of a leap of faith. I have only just started working on the book. However, I do have evidence to support my belief that I will finish it by April.
Exhibit A. The other ten completed books in the series.
This is not blind optimism. This is experience.
Exhibit B. I am already having fun with this book.
I probably should feel guilty about that, since someone has already died and boucherie does, in fact, mean butcher. But if you have been around me for any length of time, you know my sense of humor occasionally trends dark.
If you are still here reading, there is a strong chance yours does too.
Which means you will fit right in.
So what all this means is that you can preorder Boucherie Breakdown right now, with the same hopeful confidence I am feeling. It will release April 21 and, like the rest of the Big Uneasy series, it will be available to read for free in Kindle Unlimited.
I am also considering releasing it one week early in my bookstore. It would only be available there briefly before I would need to take it down to comply with Kindle Unlimited rules. If that is something you would like to see, let me know in the comments.
Looking ahead, I will also be releasing another Cyborg Chronicles book later this year, likely in November. And I am working on two secret projects.
These are very much me projects. I am not talking about them yet because it annoys my Muse when I do that, and trust me when I say we do not want to annoy my Muse.
So, circling back to Boucherie Breakdown, here is the blurb and the preorder link. (Preorders are extremely motivating, and I am not above admitting they help me finish the dang book.)
Katherine Baker did not plan on living a fiction cliché, but there is no denying it is a dark and stormy night. Worse, a shot rings out in the creepy, gothic mansion where she is riding out the storm.
The “it is just a tropical storm” has decided to level up, delivering heavy winds and storm surge that trap Katherine inside with her wheelchair-bound employer.
Local cop Banks Fontenot knows Katherine is on the highest ground on the island, but he cannot shake the feeling that he needs to check on her. That feeling is entirely personal.
It turns out to be a very good call.
He finds Katherine holding a gun and standing over a dead man. Now they are cut off from outside help, without power or internet, and slowly realizing that the storm may not be their biggest problem.
What is the deal with the old man and his creepy house?
Katherine is a Baker and a former cop. She should be able to handle anything that comes her way. But having Banks by her side feels dangerously good, even if she suspects one of her brothers sent him to keep an eye on her.
Now they just have to survive the storm, and whoever or whatever is trying to kill them, long enough to earn the kiss they are both dying for.
Here is hoping your New Year’s resolutions are going better than mine.
