Pick your treasure carefully…
Carly Tate’s trip to Yachats State Park takes an unexpected twist when she is caught in a sudden storm. Seeking shelter, she stumbles through a magical doorway into a cavern filled with treasure. Her gaze is not focused on the gold and jewels though, it is focused on the slumbering form of a magnificent dragon.
Drago is King of the Isle of Dragons and the last of his kind. He vows to kill any who tries to steal the treasures of his kingdom. Bitter with rage, he retreats to the cavern far below where he guards it – until the day he is awoken.
When Drago warns the unusual thief to choose wisely, he never expects for her to choose him. Carly’s appearance begins a series of events that will change not only Drago’s life, but set in motion a chain of events that will affect all of the Seven Kingdoms. Can a centuries old dragon protect his most valuable treasure, or will the evil that left him alone take Carly from him as well?
I know, I know… Another series?! Really?! Yes, I admit it; I really do have squirrels for brains – or in my brains – or in a control center operating my brain. LOL. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it – until another squirrel gets loose.
I have found that one of the wonderful things about life is discovering or challenging yourself to do something you haven’t done before. It is scary and exciting at the same time. It may sound strange with over 50 books to my name now, but this series was different. In the Seven Kingdoms, which will be eight books in all, I discovered that these were more of a modern fantasy and a complete world with amazing characters that breathed with life. It has a slightly different feel to it than my other books – more of a fairy tale feeling with magical creatures and kingdoms that you want to get lost on. So, with each of my series I try to make them as unique as possible so readers can go on an adventure that would otherwise be impossible.
Okay, seriously, why did I write the Seven Kingdom series? There were several reasons, the first being Carly and Drago’s story played in my head like a broken record with the needle stuck in the groove. The images of their meeting were so powerful, vivid, and clear that I knew I needed to write the story. Once I started writing, I became frustrated because this series was supposed to be meant as a quick free read.
I wrote The Dragon’s Treasure as a 2500 word story, but there was so much of what was happening that was left out. I knew I would have to one day finish it. When I wrote The Sea King’s Lady, it was a bit longer. By A Witch’s Touch, I knew I was in trouble! LOL. Yep, Part 1 and Part 2 and over 30K words – yep, I was totally in trouble… and loving the stories the more I got into the series.
So, the question was what to do next. There was only one answer – all the books needed to be written to full length. It wasn’t fair to the characters, to the readers, or to me to not write their stories. I also wanted to do something different; I wanted to write the full series all at once since I already had the first six books in different stages of completion. I’ve never written a complete series all at once, so this is another first.
I have learned that the stories need to be told by the characters. It is their story, their journey, their magic that they have shared with me so I can share it with you. Look for The Seven Kingdom series coming soon at sesmithfl.com.
