It’s Spring! Refresh Your Reading!

I'm not a huge fan of spring cleaning, but I love refreshing my reading!

Refresh Your Reading Pauline Baird Jones

While I’m not a huge fan of spring cleaning that involves dusting and the beating of rugs, I do like anything reading related. So this seems like a good time to do some bookshelf spring cleaning.

Just like beating the dust out of rugs requires hard decisions (like do I really want to release a bunch of dust back into the wild?), going after those bookshelves means letting go of those books that you’ve outgrown (or not read, not that I have any of those 🙄).

In hopes of simplifying the process for you (or giving you time to procrastinate until summer), here are some tips for spring cleaning your bookshelves:

1. Clear some space with judicious purging. I know I have books that I still have an emotional attachement to, and possibly some books I keep meaning to read. But perhaps it is time to liberate some of those books, let them go to find a new reader out there in the wide world.

2. Once you’ve cleared space, you have a couple of options. You can organize what is left. Or you can go to the bookstore and fill the empty spots.

3. Is your bookshelf virtual? I’ll admit it is a lot harder to organize digital shelves. What I like to do is go through and browse for those books I didn’t read and see if I’m ready to dive in.

4. Do you have a lot of digital samples awaiting judgement? Sit down and read them and see what the chemistry is like. Are you having trouble stopping yourself from buying? This would be a great time to buy that book and start reading.

I know. I’m lousy at spring cleaning advice on any topic. But I’m great at urging readers to read! Haha

I’ll add a bonus tip before I close. Have an author or a book you love? Take the time to share with a friend. Authors depend on readers to tell other readers about their favorite books and authors because there are a LOT of books out there.

Do you have a favorite book of mine? Please share here (and with a friend!)

Perilously yours,

Pauline
