How to Survive Valentine’s Day!

Happy (?) Valentine's Day?

Let's Fall in Love by Pauline Baird Jones

Valentine’s Day, the day of love and romance, also sometimes known as, “Hallmark’s holiday to make single people feel bad about themselves.”

But let’s not go negative. Valentine’s Day can be a lot of fun, especially if you approach it with a sense of humor.

First things first, if you’re in a relationship, congrats, you get to spend a fortune on flowers, chocolates, and dinner reservations. Thankfully, in this economy, it’s not the gifts that matter, it’s the company. So, if your significant other suggests a night of Netflix and takeout, go for it. Nothing says “I love you” like sweatpants and a shared bag of Cheetos.

But what about the single folk? Fear not, Valentine’s Day is not just for couples. It’s a day to celebrate love in all its forms, whether that be with friends, family, or even yourself and your book boyfriend.

If you’re feeling lonely, grab your squad and get out and have a “Galentine’s Day” party with your besties. Trust me, nothing brings people together like a truly bad movie and a group text complaining about how much you hate Valentine’s Day.

And let’s not forget about the true love of our lives, food.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to indulge in all the chocolate, steak, and fizzy drinks your heart desires. So, whether you’re dining alone or with a loved one, make sure to raise a glass of your favorite to the one true love of your life, carbs.

I also love to read a romantic book, or watch a favorite classic romantic movie. I learned to love romance novels at my grandma’s knee (yes, you read that right). When I started my first book it was supposed to be swoon-worthy romance, not a “what can I blow up?” romantic suspense.

There was a romance, but I kept zooming into mystery. Oops.

However, I do have two romantic short story collections! Seriously, no one dies in any of them. In honor of Valentine’s Day I’m offering them in my bookstore for 25% off.
