Make sure you're always in the know about my new releases and other exclusive content!
Ideas come to me in different ways. Usually, they come in bits and pieces, like a book title. Sometimes they arrive almost fully dressed and I just need to write it down.
That is kind of what happened with The Family Way, my August release in the Big Uneasy series.
If you’ve read any of the books, you know that all the Bakers have kid issues. Why? Because there are thirteen of them. I’d have kid issues, too. (I might even have caught kid issues from writing about their trauma.)
Alex is probably the one with the worst PTSD about kids because he was the oldest and had to step up when his mom, and then his stepmom, passed away. His dad, Zach, was a New Orleans cop and—no surprise—was gone a lot.
So what is the worst thing that can happen to Alex?
Well, first he fell in love with a kid magnet, named Nell, who found out she was related to some mob families.
They got married (hope it’s not too big of a spoiler, but I do write happy endings!) and then Nell gets pregnant.
I didn’t want to write about nine months of pregnancy, so I focused on the baby shower. Here’s the blurb:
Alex and Nell are expecting!
At Nell’s baby shower, she’s hoping for a ceasefire between the law-enforcing Bakers and her criminal cousins (not to mention her scary grandmother, the mob doyenne).
The girls just want to have fun, but when the silly shower games are interrupted by some unexpected guests, it takes the “fun” right out of this dysfunctional family shower.
Can Baby Baker help these families inch closer to neutral ground and begin to heal old wounds and fractured friendships?

Melody Simmons designed my adorable cover which perfectly suits the story. So I hope you’ll enjoy catching up with Nell and Alex. And if you haven’t started the series? There’s time to catch up!
And—you can read Family Treed, another Nell and Alex short story—for free!
I did love the play on words with the title and I hadn’t tortured Alex recently, so it was a fun project to write! I hope readers will love it, too!
I love revisiting my Bakers and New Orleans and I hope you do, too!
Perilously yours,
Pauline
