The (Mostly) True Story Behind the Writing of OmnitronW
It is a long standing tradition for me to interview myself on the release of a new book.
This began when I was a new, obscure author who couldn’t find anyone to interview me.
It serves a couple of purposes:
1. It makes me laugh to interview myself
2. It helps me “record” the stories behind the book for later when I can’t quite remember what on Earth I was thinking when I wrote a book.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into the interview!
Me: So here we are again, facing each other inside our head, trying to remember who interviews whom.
Myself: It is always a strange experience when we do this, that is for sure. Now, perhaps, you could ask a question?
Me: I’m working on it, as you ought to know. So this is number 7 in our Cyborg Chronicles, the cyborg/robots who turned up in Lost Valyr and caused a lot of havoc in the Garradian Universe.
Myself: So we know you can count…
Me: But despite that ability, we managed to lose track of one of those cyborgs. We thought we only had eight. How did we find number 9?
Myself: I was going back through all my files on the cyborgs and lo, and behold, there was another model.
Me: And then we had the problem of how to explain how we lost him…
Myself: Yeah, but then I had a flash of…hermitness.
Me: Hermitness?
Myself: Well, I like to—what my mom calls blending into the woodwork—and it occurred to me that my lost cyborg could be like me. He just liked to be out of sight.
Me: And when he finally shows up?
Myself: Of course, we tried to make it kind of funny, because that is how we roll. So people meeting him for the first time are like, is he different? Because the robots are kind of alike, but each model is a little different. So they aren’t quite sure. I thought it was funny.
Me: We have a weird sense of humor.
Myself: True.
Me: You let your sense of humor loose in another way, didn’t you?
Myself: I like, as in don’t like, how you blame me when that happens. Yes, we did. Loretta Swit passed away around the time we were starting the book and somehow a little M.A.S.H. easter egg crept into the book.
Me: little?
Myself: Well, the “egg” started little, but then it might have hatched into a character that might show up again.
Me: Yeah, might. Sure. Okay, so that other thing that is a bit different about this book is…
Myself: It picks up at the end of “Echoes Beneath,” my Pets in Space 10 short story. We kind of left that geologist stranded on an unstable planet and he needed to be rescued, but he’d had inadvertent first contact, so that was also a problem.
Me: We didn’t like that problem.
Myself: No, it required some…extra accidental plotting to deal with, but we did—in the end—get the job done.
Me: And now it releases tomorrow!
Myself: Yes! I’m excited for readers to dive into the story, meet the new cyborg, find the easter egg, and the hosing before the happy ending. Because we always deliver a happy ending, even when it almost makes our head explode.
Me: So I guess we wrap this up with the blurb and a buy link?
