Why I wrote OmnitronW: The Cyborg Chronicles 7
I started writing these “why” posts back when I first started blogging, mostly to help me always remember what it was like when I wrote a book. And, because as a reader, I like to know the “why,” behind books.
So this post is mostly for readers, and a little for me.
I introduced my cyborgs in Lost Valyr in July of 2018. At the time, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with a ship full of sentient robots/cyborgs. I’m like that when I write.
I commit random acts of plotting.
This means that I add random things to my books because they seem interesting or fun and I don’t realize how much they are going to matter until later in the book.
Yes, it’s weird and yes, it is unsettling. But it is how I roll. When I try not to roll that way, my muse disappears deep inside my head and pouts.
So, a ship full of cyborg robots.
It wasn’t until the next book, Maestra Rising, that their purpose began to emerge into the front of my brain. I learned more about them and more about the Garradian Universe I’d brought all my characters to.
It kind of blew my mind.
Maestra Rising was, in many ways, a conclusion book to a story arc that began way back in The Key. I just didn’t know it until I got there.
But I still had some robot/cyborgs who wanted, and needed, their stories told.
So The Cyborg Chronicles became a spin-off series to Project Enterprise. When you are reading the seven books so far released in the series, you’ll find:
1. Familiar characters from Project Enterprise
2. You’ll still be wandering around the Garradian Universe, with a few side trips to surrounding star systems.
3. You’ll find my signature twisty plots, danger, action and adventure, and slow burn romance as my cyborgs learn how to be human again so they can fall in love.
4, The stories always connect back to my Project Enterprise series in some way.
Which brings me to the “why” of Tim’s story. He and Riina first appeared together in General’s Holiday. It was obvious to everyone but them that they were destined to be a couple, but clearly they needed their own story to get to their happy ending.
And the other reason I needed to write Tim’s story was to introduce a cyborg that kind of got lost in all my accidental plotting. So instead of eight Cyborg Chronicles, there will be nine!
