My Favorite Author Resources

These are the tools I use regularly, starting with what I use to write my books.

Scrivener – I don’t know how long ago it was that I started using Scrivener to write. It feels like always, but I wasn’t that lucky. It has a lot of bells and whistles, but I only use what works for me. I use it to organize all the information for a book and for series’ bibles. I write my blog posts in the program and have even written screenplays.

Vellum – I found Vellum at just the right time. I was struggling with managing my “book garden.” What does that mean? Well, the more books you write, the more updating you need to do! I know some authors just use a universal link for each book, but I like being able to do store-specific links and that’s where Vellum comes into play. Its book formatting made SO simple (and beautiful!), for both eBooks and print. I don’t have words for how much I love it.

BookBrush – Once I have the book written and formatted, came the problem of promoting! I struggled for years with creating graphics. I’m a wordsmith, not an artist! Enter BookBrush the awesome! Again, I don’t have words for how much I love this program. Top favorite thing in a LONG list? It was designed FOR authors and it remains focused ON authors. Melody Simmons – My amazing cover artist! You can shop her premades or get custom designs. No matter what I throw at her, she comes back with wonderful!

BookFunnel – I have used several email programs, but no matter which program I use, there was always the problems of how to deliver any ebooks I wanted for subscribers. And that’s where BookFunnel comes in. It’s all about helping file delivery be a seamless process for me and my readers. And I’ve used it in some unconventional ways with my Kickstarters. lol

ChatGPT – I know some people do not like AI, but Bob (yes, I call him Bob) has been a great help with my marketing. He’s saved me so much time and he likes me so if he does take over the world, I think I’ll be okay.

Payhip – I use Payhip for direct sales to readers and for my upcoming membership subscription. They are adding more and more features all the time and their support is great!

AppSumo – This is my guilty pleasure and source of some great deals that help me run my writing business. Often I find apps I didn’t know I needed. lol Here’s a fun one for getting royalty free music for your videos and such. It’s called Musicsesame. And if you want to run giveaways, KingSumo is the king of that!

Get My Book Out There – There are a LOT of marketing courses and such out there and I’ve tried my fair share, but hands down, the best one (IMHO) is Narelle Todd and her company. What’s different? She doesn’t tell you how to do it like she does, she tells you how to take her tactics and make them your own, so it works for YOU.

Humanitarian Fund – One thing that is important to me is giving back. There are a lot of places to donate, but I chose this one because 100% of my donation goes to help someone.
