One of the best things about writing in the Pets in Space anthology is being able to introduce pets that can be either incredibly unique or surprisingly ordinary. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to write a mixture of them. In the first anthology, I had three adorable, but very ordinary kittens. In the second anthology, I introduced an unusual mob of Emus. This time, the pets are once again from Earth. Cinnamon and Spice are two white Siberian Tigers. As I write this, I can’t help but laugh how when I came up with their names it suddenly occurred to me why I chose them! One of my sons is an avid animal lover. He and his fiancée have two kittens, two dogs, and a rabbit. Joe is an avid cook as well and all of their pets are named after spices! Oi! Life really does bleed into the stories!
Cinnamon and Spice’s personalities will be a combination of the different personalities of the pets who have influenced my life. From a cat who acts and thinks she is a dog, to all of the dogs who have brought such joy to me and my family over the years. Friends and family would often laugh and ask us how we always seemed to find animals that were so weird. I like to think it is a gift. LOL.
Cinnamon loves attention. She is curious, protective, and loves to talk while Spice has a tendency to get into mischief, be a little on the devilish side, and isn’t above being a little touchy if you mess with his family. This can lead to some funny, and often touching moments.
